Provincial Party Secretary Wu Zhenglong and Governor Xu Kunlin met in Nanjing on Tuesday with representatives of Jiangsu athletes who competed in the 32nd Summer Olympics and the 14th National Games, congratulating them on their excellent achievements and extending the high respect and New Year wishes to the athletes and coaches.
37 athletes from Jiangsu won 2 golds, 5 silvers and 2 bronzes at the 32nd Olympic Games. At the 14th National Games, the Jiangsu delegation won 116 medals, including 42 gold medals.
Wu Zhenglong said that at the 32nd Olympic Games, Jiangsu athletes overcame the severe challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and made contributions to the Chinese sports delegation.
He said at the 14th National Games, the Jiangsu delegation achieved outstanding standings, achieved a bumper harvest of spiritual civilization, demonstrated tenacious style and superb skills, fully interpreted the Olympic spirit and Chinese sports spirit, and won honors for their hometown.
Noting that sports carry the dream of national prosperity and national rejuvenation, Wu Zhenglong hoped that everyone bear in mind the General Secretary’s instructions, make new contributions and create greater glories in the new arena, further enhance the comprehensive strength of Jiangsu competitive sports, stimulate young people’s enthusiasm in sports, and contribute more to the new chapter of Jiangsu's modernization drive and the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The secretary of the provincial party committee asked party committees and governments at all levels to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, publicize the performances of the outstanding athletes and coaches, support athletes in training and competitions, and promote the high-quality development of sports in Jiangsu in an all-round way.
A commendation meeting was held Tuesday morning to honor the athletes who competed in the 32nd Summer Olympics and the 14th National Games.
