East China’s Jiangsu province will go all out to strengthen carbon peaking and carbon neutrality to support market players and promote stable economic growth, according to an executive meeting of the provincial government held Tuesday in Nanjing. Governor Xu Kunlin presided over the meeting.
Efforts must be made to study and implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and gain a deep awareness that promoting carbon neutrality and carbon peaking is the top priority of the country, making it necessary to strengthen the sense of responsibility and urgency, achieve the goal of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking in the province’s overall economic and social development and make staunch efforts to promote a green and low-carbon high-quality development path, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Measures should be taken to improve the ability of strategic thinking, strengthen the system concept, make active plan and proactive action, handle the relationship between development and emission reduction, overall and partial, long-term and short-term goals, and the government and the market so as to speed up the construction of the province's policy system, the statement said.
Efforts will be made to coordinate carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion, and promotion of growth, continue to promote industrial structure and energy structure adjustment, strengthen energy conservation and emission reduction in construction, transportation and other fields, accelerate the research on key green and low-carbon technologies, and improve policies on investment, finance, taxation, and pricing to ensure that the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is achieved as scheduled, said the statement.
In October last year, Chinese authorities unveiled a guiding document on the country's work to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals under the new development philosophy, laying out key specific targets and measures for the coming decades.
