Greater efforts will be made to promote high quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in the years ahead. The remark was made by Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, on Tuesday when delivering a speech at a meeting of the Provincial Leading Group for Promoting the Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Xu Kunlin, Governor of Jiangsu Province, presided over the meeting.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that in recent years, the provincial party committee and the provincial government have resolutely implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech and important instructions and made every effort to promote the ecological and environmental protection of the Yangtze River, which is of top concern to the overall development of the country and the happiness of the people, promote pollution control and ecological restoration, and give a full play to the promotion of the high-quality development of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River.
We must be aware that we have achieved phased results only and that the ecological environment of the Yangtze River has not yet achieved a leap from quantitative to qualitative change, said Wu Zhenglong.
To this end, we must resolutely implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, further strengthen our confidence and resolve, maintain historical patience and strategic determination, and strengthen the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, strengthen the protection and restoration of the ecological environment system of the Yangtze River, Wu Zhenglong said, adding that more efforts will be made to accelerate the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and strive to restore the health of the mother river.
Wu Zhenglong emphasized that the effective way to promote the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is to adhere to the problem- oriented approaches so as to ensure that problems are found and solved, and coordinated policies are implemented to promote the restoration of the Yangtze River ecological environment protection for greater results.
The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee requested that greater efforts must be made to strengthen the protection and restoration of the ecological environment system, coordinate the promotion of pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction, further improve the ecological environment survey of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River, curb the discharge of pollutants into the key areas of the Yangtze River, and continue to promote the ten-year fishing ban in the Yangtze River and pollution control in the Taihu Lake.
He asked the province to make greater efforts to accurately understand the new development stage, act on the new development philosophy and accelerate the establishment of the new development paradigm, adhere to the path of ecological priority, green, low-carbon and high-quality development, continue to promote the improvement of the chemical industry, accelerate the construction of a green and low-carbon industry system, and make greater efforts to promote the transformation and upgrading of industries along the river.
Wu Zhenglong reiterated that more efforts will be made to promote the construction of a modernized demonstration area of transportation in the golden waterway of the Yangtze River, create a new highland for opening up to the outside world so as to better serve the country, build a new development pattern, strengthen the construction of free trade zones, and promote high-quality development of the Belt and Road construction, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Yangtze River Delta.
Xu Kunlin asked the province to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and important instructions on promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and continue to promote the pollution control of the Yangtze River, the regulation of the sewage outfalls in the Yangtze River, the ecological restoration and afforestation along the Yangtze River, the fishing ban in the Yangtze River, promote the green and low-carbon transformation of industries along the Yangtze River, focus on building a modern comprehensive transportation system, and ensure that the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in Jiangsu achieves new results.
