Zhangjia Village in Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, sees flocks of migrating oriental white storks every winter.
The oriental white stork is a migratory bird under first-class national protection in China and listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The endangered species was first spotted in the village 12 years ago, when a villager rescued one from a big well. Since then, villagers have been engaged in protecting them. They will prepare food for those wintering in the village.
To protect the birds, villagers have organized a volunteer team. This year, nearly 100 oriental white storks have stayed in Zhangjia Village for the winter.
