This year's national college entrance exam, also known as gaokao, will take place from June 7-9, and the high school entrance exam, also known as zhongkao, will be held from June 17 to 19. To create a sound and quiet environment for test takers, Suzhou has entered "silent mode" and will strictly control and monitor noise levels across the city until 6:00 p.m., June 19.

No noise-producing construction work is allowed at night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. (except emergency maintenance and rescue);

No construction site is allowed to carry out noisy work within 100 meters from exam venues when exams are in session and in daytime;

All ecology and environment departments should suspend the approval of nighttime construction certificate until zhongkao ends;

Construction companies that work at night without authorization, continue construction after the required time frame, or carry out nighttime construction during special times will be ordered to halt the work and fined not less than RMB5,000 yuan but not more than RMB50,000 yuan.

We call on all staff at construction sites to follow "four don'ts" during this special period of time to create a quiet environment for students:

Four Don'ts

Do not honk with high-pitched horns;

Do not use loud machines (e.g. air pick and crusher) after 7 p.m.;

Do not carry out building work between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.;

Do not talk loudly.

Please dial 12369 and report should there be any noise pollution.
