East China’s Jiangsu province hit a record high in new energy vehicle output in the first seven months of this year, laying a solid foundation for the making of the world's largest power battery manufacturing base.
Statistics from the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology show that from January to July, Jiangsu reported a production of 797 thousand vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 26.1%.
The province recorded an output of 289 thousand new energy vehicles, a 1.8-fold increase year-on-year and up 1.7 percentage points in the national proportion of new energy vehicles compared with last year.
On August 1, the 200,000th Li One car rolled off the assembly line in Changzhou, setting a record of the fastest speed of making a car in China to break the 200,000 line. It also marked that Li One has ranked first in production and sales among the domestic brands of large and medium-sized SUV new energy vehicles.
The growth momentum of new energy vehicles has provided the possibility for Jiangsu and even China to overtake rivals in the automobile industry.
At present, Jiangsu has leading new energy automobile enterprises including Li One, BYD, Great Wall, and SAIC with 2,568 enterprises above designated size in the automobile industry chain, making it the largest auto parts manufacturing base in China, and is leading the development trend of major parts such as batteries, motors, and electronic controls.
For a new energy vehicle, power batteries account for about two-fifths of its value. Jiangsu ranks first in China's total power battery production, sales, and installed capacity.
The province’s 163 key enterprises in the power and energy storage battery industry chain reported total output value of 120 billion yuan in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 84.6%, accounting for 38.8% of China's total.
The total production and sales of power and energy storage batteries in Changzhou and Nanjing account for nearly 80% of the total in Jiangsu and 30% of the national total.
Since the beginning of this year, governments at all levels and auto industry enterprises in Jiangsu have taken the initiative to ensure the closed-loop production of related companies or resume production as soon as possible while preventing and controlling the epidemic, helping the new energy auto industry to rebound rapidly, forming the biggest highlight of Jiangsu's industrial growth this year.
