Taicang Port in Taicang, Suzhou is the 25th busiest port in terms of throughput of containers in 2021 as per the latest edition of One Hundred Ports published by Lloyd's List recently.
The world's top 100 container ports handled 676 million twenty-foot equivalent units of containers last year. Among them, 276 million, or 40.8 percent, were completed by Chinese ports.
The year 2021 saw the container throughput of Taicang Port increase 35 percent year-on-year to 7.038 million TEUs, posting the largest percentage gain among the listed ports. More than 140,000 ships, 120,000 people and 2 million vehicles reached the port last year with the value of goods under customs control exceeding $40 billion.
Taicang Port has basically built itself into a river-sea intermodal transportation transfer hub port, an offshore and domestic trade container trunk line port and an ocean container feeder port. It has made great efforts to contribute to neighboring Shanghai being a world-leading shipping center and become a major engine for Suzhou's social and economic development.
