The 17th Taicang Oktoberfest opened by the Tianjing Lake in Taicang last night. Representatives of directors of Germany-funded companies, German employees, talents and enterprises, and German friends in neighboring areas joined the festival.
Beer is symbolic of German culture, and Oktoberfest is an important people-to-people exchange event between Taicang and Germany. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relation between China and Germany, and it has been nearly 30 years since Taicang and Germany cooperated with each other. Taicang ranks high in both the number and development level of German-invested companies across China as 449 ones have settled down in the city.
Christian Heinz Sommer, chairman and CEO of German Centre Shanghai and chairman of German Centre Taicang
It gives me great pleasure to join you in the Taicang Oktoberfest. Taicang is the second home for our Germans, and when Rothenburg Street is completed, the city will become more homely to us.
The event will close tomorrow. Tonight is "the Night of European Chamber" and tomorrow night is "the Sci-tech Night."
