The city of Yangzhou in east China’s Jiangsu province has made every effort to write a new chapter in the modernization of Yangzhou by bearing in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions and focusing on the construction of a famous industrial and technological city, a famous cultural tourism city and a famous ecological and livable city.
In order to build a green development and a beautiful and livable city, Yangzhou has accelerated the promotion of ecological environment improvement, fought a tough battle against pollution, closed 493 chemical enterprises, strengthened the ecological protection of the Yangtze River, and ensured the water quality at the source of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
At the same time, Yangzhou has made great efforts to build a famous cultural tourism city. In the past ten years, it has forged Yangzhou's cultural competitiveness and urban soft power by adhering to the people-centered development concept and focusing on promoting high-quality cultural development.
Yangzhou has intensified its efforts to integrate into the construction of the National Grand Canal Cultural Belt, promoted the influence of the brand effect of the Twelve Canal Scenic Spots and the Canal Origin City, opened the China Grand Canal Museum, and took the lead in forming the "Yangzhou Model for the Construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and National Cultural Park" while upgraded the World Canal Cities Forum into a national-level forum.
Yangzhou has always regarded culture and tourism as an important pillar industry with core competitiveness in Yangzhou. In 2021, it reported a cultural industry added value of 32.679 billion yuan. The city has won the honorary titles of "World Canal Capital", "World Food Capital" and "East Asian Cultural Capital".

In the meantime, Yangzhou has promoted the construction of a famous industrial science and technology city by focusing on building a modern industrial system, adhering to the advanced manufacturing industry as the main body, accelerating the upgrading of industrial levels, and continuously cultivating innovation momentum.
In the past ten years, Yangzhou's manufacturing industry has vigorously cultivated "323+1" advanced manufacturing clusters. Industries such as automobiles and parts, high-end equipment, and new power equipment have reported respective output value of more than 100 billion yuan. Advanced manufacturing clusters account for up to 70% of the city’s industries above designated size.
In the past ten years, Yangzhou has increased its GDP from 293.3 billion yuan in 2012 to 669.6 billion yuan in 2021 and the per capita disposable income has increased from 28,001 yuan to 42,287 yuan. The people's satisfaction with Yangzhou's ecological environment has increased from 87% in 2014 to 93.6% last year.
