The city of Nantong in east China’s Jiangsu province has made every effort to write a new chapter in the modernization of Nantong by bearing in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions and focusing on the construction of an open city with a good ecological environment, strong industrial strength and high urban momentum.
Nantong has put the restoration of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River in an overwhelming position. Since 2016, it has invested more than 12 billion yuan to restore 12 kilometers of the Yangtze River coastline and increase 9,000 acres of forest green space. All chemical enterprises within 1 km along the Yangtze River have been relocated or closed.

The 17-square-kilometer Nantong Innovation Zone, which was a "transition zone" 10 years ago, has now become the "new center" of the entire city.
With the innovation zone as the core and 4 national-level parks as the support, Nantong has concentrated more than 80% of the city's land to build a high-standard Yangtze River Science and Technology Innovation Belt.
At the same time, Nantong has launched a new deal of 30 innovation policies, introduced three rounds of new policies for talents, and invested 187.541 billion yuan in research and development.
Nantong's high-tech industry has occupied half of the industries above designated size, forming five industrial clusters worth 100 billion yuan in marine engineering, high-end textiles, new materials, new information technology, and high-end equipment.
In 2021, Nantong was ranked 23rd in the National Innovative City Innovation Capability Ranking.

Nantong has completed the construction of the Nanjing-Qidong Railway, Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge, and Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway. Nantong Airport will be relocated to a new location and the overall planning of Nantong Port has been approved.
23 major events and major projects such as the Nantong Shanghai-Suzhou Cross-river Integrated Development Pilot Zone have been incorporated into the "14th Five-Year Plan" Implementation Plan for the Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta, indicating that Nantong is stepping into the core circle of the Yangtze River Delta integration strategy.

In the past ten years, Nantong's economic aggregate has surpassed the level of 100 billion yuan for seven consecutive years. In 2020, its GDP reached one trillion yuan, and the per capita disposable income reported a 1.23-fold increase.
