The coastal areas of Jiangsu have continued to improve the construction of modern infrastructure in recent years by relying on its geographical advantages, introducing major projects and accelerating industrial transformation and upgrading so as to have created growth engines for high-quality coastal development.
An ocean-going freighter full of various Japanese and Korean electronic products was seen docking at the Lianyungang Port Container Terminal.
Three hours later, the cargo will depart from the China-Kazakhstan logistics base and arrive in Kazakhstan through "sea-rail combined transport".
The Lvsi starting port area located in Tongzhou Bay of Nantong will soon welcome the opening of container berths. With the blessing of advanced terminal intelligent loading and unloading systems, by 2025, the port area will report a container handling capacity of 2 million TEUs.
"The close connection between the coastal railway and inland water transportation system and the seaport will further improve the container distribution system of our new sea port and help enterprises reduce the cost of logistics," said Lv Dongqin, Deputy General Manager of Nantong Port Group Co., Ltd.
Jiangsu's coastal areas have given full play to the advantages of land-sea coordination and river-sea linkage and accelerated the improvement of modern infrastructure construction in a bid to seize major national strategic opportunities such as the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the "Belt and Road" construction.
To this end, the coastal areas have systematically planned the functional layout of coastal ports by focusing on the weak points of coastal comprehensive transportation, and investing special funds to build a dense modern transportation network of coastal railways, coastal roads and air passages.
At present, Jiangsu has built the first 300,000-ton deep-water shipping lane in Lianyungang, and is accelerating the Nantong-Suzhou-Huzhou Intercity Railway, the Nantong Section of the North Yangtze River High-speed Railway, and the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge.
The coastal regions have also relied closely on innovation-driven strategies to empower high-quality development.
In recent years, Lianyungang has stepped up its efforts to build China Pharmaceutical Port, a pharmaceutical high-tech zone, by targeting pharmaceutical R&D, production, business and public technical services. It has settled in 16 national-level innovation carriers such as Hengrui Medicine and Chia Tai Tianqing, and the number of first-class new drugs approved for marketing leads the country.
"The China Pharmaceutical Port will make full use of the opportunities of opening and cooperation brought by the "Belt and Road", strengthen the docking and cooperation with cities, national advanced biomedical parks and excellent biopharmaceutical enterprises along the "Belt and Road", so that China Pharmaceutical Port will gather more first-class enterprises and first-class projects," said Liu Jianping, Deputy Director of New Pharmaceutical Industry Development Bureau of Lianyungang Economic and Technological Development Zone.
While constantly strengthening characteristic industrial clusters, the coastal areas of Jiangsu have also introduced a number of cutting-edge scientific research institutes to empower industrial transformation and upgrading. Last year, the coastal areas of Jiangsu reported a GDP exceeding 2 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%.
