China's "5G+Industrial Internet" will enter a new stage from initial exploration to large-scale development, said a senior official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's top industry regulator at the 2022 China 5G+Industrial Internet Conference opened in Wuhan, Hubei on Sunday.

The innovative development of China's "5G+Industrial Internet" has entered the fast lane by building the world's largest and technologically leading 5G independent networking network with the number of 5G base stations exceeding 2.22 million, accounting for more than 60% of the world's total,

All prefecture level cities and county towns in China have achieved 5G network coverage, with more than 520 million users.

The pillar industries such as aircraft, ships, automobiles, electronics, energy and mining have carried out the innovation practice of "5G+industrial Internet". More than 4000 projects are under construction nationwide, and a number of high-level 5G fully connected factory benchmarks have been cultivated.

5G has accelerated its promotion to medical, transportation, education and other industries and fields, driving the growing maturity of new technologies in artificial intelligence, AR/VR, 8K display, and the rapid development of new business formats including the Internet of Motor Vehicles.

Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology

The innovative development of the "5G+Industrial Internet" not only drives enterprises to improve quality, reduce costs, increase efficiency, green and safe development, but also opens up a new path for upgrading traditional industrial technologies, speeds up the implementation and popularization of new production methods that fully connect people, machines, and materials, and becomes an important support to promote high-end, intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry.

Zhang Yunming pointed out that China will study and introduce new measures to support the scale development of industrial Internet, constantly improve the multi-level innovation demonstration system, and develop 5G fully connected factory construction standards by industry and by field. At the same time, the country will reduce the cost of comprehensive application and promote all parties to strengthen the R&D and industrialization of low-cost and lightweight 5G industrial products.

More than 1,800 5G+ industrial Internet projects were under construction in China in 2021, according to a report on China's Internet development.

The 1,800-plus projects covered more than 20 key sectors of China's national economy such as iron and steel and electric power, said the report released at the 2022 China Internet Conference which kicked off on Tuesday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.

By 2021, there were more than 100 influential industrial Internet platforms in China, connecting with over 76 million devices, said the report.

The value of China's digital economy reached 45.5 trillion yuan in 2021, ranking second in the world, and the country had built the world's largest 5G network with more than 1.42 million 5G base stations in operation by the end of last year, according to the report.
