The State Forestry and Grass Administration released on Tuesday the 2021 Forest and Grass Resources and Ecological Status of China. This is the first time that China has carried out the national comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of forest and grass ecology.
At the national level, it has conducted an overall evaluation of the ecological space, ecological products and ecosystem function value of the three ecosystems of forest, grassland and wetland.
The monitoring and evaluation results show that the total value of forest, grassland and wetland ecological space ecological products in China is 28.58 trillion yuan per year.
In 2021, China registered a forest area of 3.46 billion mu, a forest coverage rate of 24.02%, a forest stock of 19.493 billion cubic meters, a grassland area of 3.968 billion mu, a grassland comprehensive vegetation coverage of 50.32%, an annual total output of 595 million tons of fresh grass, and a total carbon storage of 11.443 billion tons of forest and grass vegetation.
The national forest and grass ecosystem is showing a healthy development trend, with gradually improved quality and steadily enhanced functions.
In 2021, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration integrated various monitoring resources such as forests, grasslands, wetlands, innovated technology and methods, expanded the evaluation content, and carried out the national forest and grass ecological comprehensive monitoring and evaluation in order to accurately grasp the forest and grass resources and their ecological status in China, and objectively evaluate the effectiveness of forest and grass ecological protection and restoration.
