Zhongshan Biological Breeding Laboratory was inaugurated in Nanjing on Sunday, and the first meeting of the Laboratory Council was held concurrently. Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the provincial party committee, and Xu Kunlin, governor of the province, gave instructions for the inception of the laboratory.
Wu Zhenglong stated in his instruction that all parts of the province must thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statement on the work of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers", earnestly implement the spirit of the Twentieth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, vigorously support the construction of Zhongshan Laboratory, actively promote the seed industry revitalization in Jiangsu, give science and technology wings to agriculture, and ensure that seed resources are firmly held in our own hands.
He hoped that Zhongshan Laboratory would take the initiative, aim at being world-class leader, comply with the standards for the establishment of national major scientific and technological innovation bases, actively explore the mechanism and operation mode of talent gathering, collaborative tackling, open sharing, performance incentive system, focus on the national strategy, the frontier of science and technology and the needs of Jiangsu, and make great efforts to tackle the major scientific problems and key technologies of the seed industry.
Xu Kunlin pointed out in the instructions that the construction of biological breeding Zhongshan Laboratory is a major political task for the provincial party committee and the provincial government to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, give full play to the province’s advantages of being an agriculture and grain powerhouse and an agricultural science and technology powerhouse, and promote the development of seed industry.
He hoped that Zhongshan Laboratory, guided by the national strategic needs, and with the mission of breaking through the source security, tackling the key core technologies of biological breeding, and solving major scientific and technological problems in the seed industry, would innovate the system and mechanism, gather high-end resources, and strive to make itself included in the national strategic scientific and technological force layout.
Hu Guangjie, Vice Governor and Chairman of the Council of Zhongshan Laboratory, Xia Xinmin, Mayor of Nanjing and Chairman of the Council of Zhongshan Laboratory, attended the meeting and unveiled the laboratory.
Board members of Zhongshan Laboratory attended the meeting. Wan Jianmin, an academician of the CAE Member, was appointed director of Zhongshan Laboratory. Nanjing Municipal Government, Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University and Yangzhou University signed an agreement on the joint construction of Zhongshan Laboratory. Zhongshan Laboratory signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Syngenta Group.
