Haitong Taicang Wharf kicks off construction on pilot section

Construction of the pilot section of Haitong Taicang Wharf, which will be the largest terminal along the Yangtze River for the shipping of ro-ro freight and vehicles, started on December 22. 

The project will build a T-shaped logistics network along the sea and river, integrate the automotive supply chain and pro-innovation sources in the Yangtze River Delta region, and create a hub with multimodal transport services for commercial vehicles.

Upon competition, Haitong Taicang Wharf, located in the Taicang Port Container Area, will be able to handle 1.3 million vehicles per year and make full use of the advantages of good location and extensive transportation network that comprises of expressways, railways and waterways.   

The project is under development because Suzhou is one of Chinese cities with the most complete industrial system. The city’s auto industry has an annual output of over 420 billion yuan, and there are more than 5 million motor vehicles on the road in Suzhou. The pillar industry for the city also plays an important role in the country’s industry chain, with outstanding development advantages and broad prospects.

Haitong Taicang Wharf will open up an efficient trade channel for Suzhou’s enterprises to achieve global reach. The first phase of the wharf’s auto logistics center has so far handled 460,000 vehicles since the trial operation began in November 2019, including 300,000 vehicles in 2022, an increase of 142.6% year-on-year.
