Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province aims to become a role model for Chinese-style modernization, according to a recent interview with the city's Party secretary Du Xiaogang.

The city will develop a high-level digital economy, open up more to the world, and transform itself into the cleanest city in China.

Wuxi will shift the focus of the digital economy to assisting the real economy, as well as to intelligent sensing, internet of vehicles, and industrial internet.

It will also build stronger digital economy core sectors, such as internet of things and software and information services, to develop a digital industrial cluster with international competitiveness.

Wuxi in recent years has also doubled down on opening up. The city's imports and exports are expected to exceed $110 billion last year, a record high, and its trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled about $30 billion, up 10 percent year-on-year.

The city will construct a number of model projects for international cooperation, accelerate the upgrading of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia, and make good use of China-Europe trains.

It will also help more local businesses expand their international presence and incentivize foreign enterprises to establish operations in the city.

Wuxi has published a three-year plan to become the cleanest Chinese city. By 2024, it plans to have a more pleasant natural environment, more beautiful scenery, more complete infrastructure, and a more orderly society.
