The provincial people’s congress of east China’s Jiangsu province has given full play to efficient legislative supervision so as to promote the sustained economic development.
In the summer and autumn of 2022, the enforcement inspection of the implementation of the "one law and one regulation" for the protection of the Yangtze River was carried out in eight prefectural cities along the Yangtze River. The Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, in conjunction with the people's congresses of all prefectural cities, inspected the implementation of the legal responsibilities for the protection of the Yangtze River by various departments at all levels, consolidated the development results, and urged the rectification of problems.

For five consecutive years the Provincial People's Congress has promoted the implementation of the Law on the Prevention and Control of Air.Water, Soil and Solid Waste Pollution the Yangtze River Protection Law and the Comprehensive Environmental Protection Law which has enhanced the supervisory role of the Provincial People's Congress and promoted the continuous improvement of the ecological environment in the province.
Over the past five years, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress has strengthened legal supervision and work supervision in accordance with the law, focusing on economic work, ecological environment protection, rural revitalization, and the implementation of practical projects for people's livelihood.
Since 2020 when the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress held its first supervisory work meeting to further clarify the role of the NPC's supervision in the new era, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress has closely followed the focus and key points in the economic and social development, strengthened the normalized and institutionalized supervision, and at the same time expanded the supervision field to state-owned assets, local government debt and other aspects to continuously enhance the effectiveness of supervision.

Over the past five years, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress has listened to and deliberated 114 special work and plans, budget and final accounts, and audit reports, carried out 28 law enforcement inspections, 11 special inquiries, 5 work reviews, and 71 satisfaction evaluations, which has promoted the focus of supervision to work in alignment with the reform and development of the province, helping the province’s economic and social development and reform to achieve stability and sustainability.
