A shield machine successfully passed through the left line of the Yangtze River Tunnel on Jianning West Road in Nanjing and reached the Jiangnan embankment, marking that the biggest risk source of tunnel construction has been overcome.
The 2674-meter left line of Nanjing Jianning West Road Yangtze River Tunnel includes a 2349-meter shield section and a segment diameter of 14.5m. The shield machine passes through the upper soft and lower hard composite stratum, which is one of the most difficult tunnel projects in the Yangtze River basin and the entire country.
Li Longhui, Shield tunnel manager of Nanjing Jianning West Road, China Railway 14th Bureau said, "At present, we have successfully crossed the Yangtze River to reach the Jiangnan embankment by advancing to the 970th Ring, completed 82% of the total work volume. During the Spring Festival, we will continue construction to ensure reaching the reception well in Jiangnan in March."
In the process of the shield machine crossing the 70-meter-wide Jiangnan embankment, the construction team will use digital technology to connect the shield machine tunneling system with the management platform, mud control system, and image navigation monitoring system, accurately control the shield machine posture, and steadily advance at an average speed of 10 meters per day.
The project will greatly alleviate the traffic pressure of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, and play an important role in improving the Nanjing expressway network system and promoting the economic development of the Jiangbei New Area, national hi-tech development zone on the northern bank of the Yangtze River.
