Along the Yangtze River coastline of the five mountains in Nantong, as far as you can see, cherry, peach, apricot and some other flowers are in full bloom. Overlooking from the river, finless porpoises were sported from time to time, bringing great surprises to tourists.
On November 12, 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Yangtze River area in Nantong during his inspection tour in Jiangsu. He praised the local efforts to construct a green and ecological corridor after being briefed on the progress in ecological repair in the riverside and the fishing ban in the Yangtze River.
Nantong is also at the forefront of the Yangtze River fishing ban that the General Secretary is concerned about. Since 2020, Nantong has launched a "ten-year fishing ban" by surrendering more than 170 fishing boats and transferring 400 fishermen ashore. Zhang Zhiping is one of them.
Today, Zhang Zhiping is engaged in household registration management in the community, with a monthly salary of more than 5000 yuan. In 2021, his community was relocated, and more than 400 households moved into spacious and bright new buildings.
Linjiang New Area, located in the Haimen section of the Yangtze River, was once an industrial park dominated by chemical industry. From 2019 to 2021, the local government strengthened the renovation and transformation of the chemical industry by shutting down 8 chemical enterprises and 2 transformation enterprises.
In the past ten years, Jiangsu has placed the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River ecology in an overwhelming position by shutting down 3505 chemical enterprises and returned 72.6 kilometers of production shoreline. The water quality of the main stream of the Yangtze River has remained at Class II for four consecutive years, and 98.3% of the water quality of the main tributaries of the Yangtze River has reached Class III. The ecological environment quality of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River has undergone a turning change.
Today, the ecological environment in Jiangsu has achieved a historic change from serious overdraft to obvious improvement. Green has become the bright background of high-quality development in Jiangsu.
