East China’s Jiangsu province coped with return trip rush on May 3rd, the last day of the five-day Labor Day holiday.

Starting around 8am on Wednesday morning, Jiangsu recorded a gradual increase in highway traffic volume. Affected by continuous rainfall, Xuzhou, Suqian, Huai'an, Yancheng, and Lianyungang imposed speed or vehicle type restrictions on some highways.

Traffic police departments, in conjunction with road management companies and traffic law enforcement departments, have formulated comprehensive emergency measures to ensure the smooth flow of highways.

“We have activated emergency lanes when necessary to enhance the traffic flow of Jiangyin Bridge. At the same time, we have dispatched police to patrol the roads to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic,” said Qian Jin, Captain of Highway First Brigade of Traffic Police Detachment of Taizhou Public Security Bureau.

Due to the increasing traffic flow, some service areas on highways are unable to provide parking services, obliging service area staff to take various measures in advance.

During the May Day holiday, highways in Jiangsu recorded an average daily traffic flow of 4.3331 million vehicles, an increase of 25.58% compared with the same period of 2019.

Nanjing railway station and Nanjing South Railway Station sent off 320 thousand passengers on Wednesday.

From April 27 to May 2, the Nanjing railway station and Nanjing South Railway Station sent 1.87 million passengers, with a daily average of 300 thousand, an increase of 2.1% over 2019.

Nanjing Coach Terminal increased bus routes to northern Jiangsu, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Qingdao and Rizhao in Shandong to cope with the return trip rush.
