The self-employed businesses and platform economy in east China’s Jiangsu province have promoted economic recovery since the beginning of this year by providing a large number of employment opportunities. JSBC has the story.

The recently-opened Suzhou Liuyilou Restaurant, a time-honored restaurant, has carefully developed its dishes and recruited sufficient waiters, hoping to provide citizens and tourists with a good dining experience.

“The Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Gusu District has provided great support for our recruitment of employees. They helped to release online some job recruiting information and invited us to participate in job fairs, so we recruited 40 employees in the one-month preparation period,” said Zhou Bin, Chairman of Suzhou Liuyilou Restaurant.

The Liuyilou Restaurant is located in Shilu, a bustling commercial area outside Changmen in Suzhou, where many self-employed businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and beverage shops often have a high demand for employees, but they have no HR managers inclusively responsible for recruitment.

The human resources and social security department of Gusu District has explored services such as "employment butler" and "shared personnel manager", providing employment guidance, social security account opening, and labor contract formulation for the self-employed businesses.

“We have purchased third-party services by hiring a third-party human resources service agency to serve multiple small and micro enterprises, helping them reduce costs and increase efficiency, better creating more job opportunities, and promoting high-quality employment,” said Xu Shun, Director of Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Gusu District.

According to the recently released "Several Measures to Support the High-Quality Development of Self-employed Businesses", Jiangsu has recorded over 10 million self-employed businesses and can provide at least 10 million jobs.

In the meantime, the thriving platform economy has also become an important reservoir for promoting employment in Jiangsu.

“Our company sells daily chemicals and has opened its own shop on Tiktok. This year, we have a large demand for livestreaming anchors,” said Ma Meijuan, Administrative Personnel Specialist of Huamao Network Technology Co., Ltd.

Statistics show that as of the end of March, self-employed businesses in Jiangsu reported a gain of 140 thousand new employees. The new employment form relying on the platform economy employed 4.71 million people, an increase of 520 thousand month on month.
