Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong said Tuesday China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with Pacific Island countries in agriculture and fishery to make new contributions to building an even closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island countries.
Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when speaking at the opening ceremony of the China-Pacific Island countries agriculture and fishery ministers meeting in Nanjing.
Liu said under the strategic guidance of leaders of the two sides, China and Pacific Island countries have achieved fruitful results in agriculture and fishery cooperation. This meeting is of great significance for the two sides to ensure food security, strengthen marine protection and sustainable use, and accelerate agricultural modernization.
China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with Pacific Island countries in agriculture and fishery, enhance economic and trade cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, jointly boost economic development, and improve people's livelihood, Liu added.
Taking the meeting as an opportunity, China hopes to push the agriculture and fishery cooperation with Pacific Island countries to a new height to contribute to building an even closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island countries, said Liu.
During his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, Tang Renjian, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, pointed out that under the strategic guidance of the leaders from China and Pacific Island countries, we have continuously promoted agricultural and fishery cooperation as a key area of friendly cooperation and made it a model of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between South and South.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will make every effort to implement President Xi Jinping’s important instructions, follow the requirements of Vice Premier Liu Guozhong's speech, and work with Pacific Island countries to ensure food security, modernize agriculture and fisheries, promote sustainable development, and upgrade industrial chains.
China will focus on mechanism construction and planning coordination, agricultural technology cooperation and capacity enhancement, agricultural green development and fisheries conservation and utilization, agricultural trade and investment cooperation, and strive to achieve more fruitful results, Tang added.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Xin Changxing, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, said that although Jiangsu and Pacific Island countries have a long history of friendly exchanges and agricultural cooperation though they are far apart.
He said Jiangsu will follow the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and the heads of state of the Pacific island countries, implement the requirements of Vice Premier Liu Guozhong's speech, further deepen agricultural technology cooperation and exchange, promote win-win agricultural economic and trade cooperation, enhance agricultural talent training with the Pacific Island countries, and make new contributions to serving and building a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island countries.
The Nanjing Consensus on Agricultural and Fishery Cooperation between China and Pacific Island Countries was released, and the China Pacific Island Countries Agricultural Cooperation Demonstration Center was unveiled at the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
