The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Spain and also China-Spain Year of Culture and Tourism. In this edition of Top Talk, we invite Juan Jose Zaballa, the Spanish Economic and Commercial Consul in Shanghai.

挖掘西班牙产品潜力
As the Spanish Economic and Commercial Consul, Juan Jose Zaballa's main goal this year is to restore the activity of the commercial office to its normal level of activity, and provide promotional service to both Chinese investors in Spain and Spanish companies acting here in China.
作为西班牙经济商务领事，今年胡安何塞·萨巴亚的主要目标是让西班牙驻沪总领馆经济商务处的业务恢复到正常水平，为在西班牙的中国投资者和在中国开展业务的西班牙企业提供推广服务。
"Spain is basically an industrial country. It's basically a highly developed service country. And therefore we believe that there's a lot more to offer to Chinese economy other than simple food and wine. We want to focus our attention on all the other potentialities of Spanish products, such as beauty products, home products, fashion products, and technological and industrial products," said Juan Jose Zaballa.
“西班牙是一个工业国家，服务业也高度发达。因此，除了美食和葡萄酒，西班牙还可以向中国提供很多种产品。我们想集中精力发掘其它产品的潜力，比如美容产品、家居产品、时尚产品，还有科技产品和工业产品。”胡安何塞·萨巴亚告诉我们。
江苏：西班牙企业投资中国
最热门目的地之一
"Jiangsu province is one of the big economic and growth powerhouses in China. We know for sure that the potential for growth, for development in the province is enormous. And that's why we want to focus a lot of our trade promotional activities in your province." Juan Jose Zaballa, the Spanish Economic and Commercial Consul in Shanghai, told Hello Jiangsu in the interview.
“江苏是中国经济增长最具活力的省份之一，”西班牙驻沪总领馆经济商务领事胡安何塞·萨巴亚在接受专访时表示，“我们确信，江苏省有着巨大的增长和发展潜力。因此，我们很多贸易推广活动都集中在江苏。”
Juan Jose Zaballa pointed out that Jiangsu province is one of the main destinations of Spanish investments in China, with a very high concentration of Spanish car part suppliers to local Chinese OEMs and car producers. "When you get on your Chinese car, whatever Chinese car, there's a high possibility that it is equipped with Spanish components," Juan Jose Zaballa said, "There's a very particular town in your province, which is Kunshan. Kunshan holds a lot of Spanish firms. Most of them are related to automobile construction and automobile parts. There's a very high concentration of Spanish firms there. And chances are that in the short term, there will be even more, because there're a lot of Spanish companies moving over to China with the automobile business."
胡安何塞·萨巴亚说，江苏省是西班牙企业投资中国的主要目的地之一。中国本土的整车厂和汽车生产商，大量使用来自于西班牙供应的汽车零部件。“当你坐上一辆中国国产汽车，无论什么品牌，它都极有可能配备了来自西班牙企业的零部件，”胡安何塞·萨巴亚介绍道，“特别是昆山。昆山的西班牙企业数量多，集中程度高，大部分与汽车制造和汽车零部件相关。并且短期内，昆山可能会迎来更多西班牙企业，因为很多企业都正在把汽车业务向中国转移。”
立足现有良好基础
加强友好省州关系
Located in northeastern Spain, the Basque Country is one of Spain's most economically developed regions. In 2012, Jiangsu province and the Basque Autonomous Region established friendship, and the two sides carried out a series of fruitful cooperation in agriculture, science and technology, health, ecological protection and other fields.
巴斯克自治区位于西班牙东北部，是西班牙经济最发达的地区之一。2012年，江苏省与巴斯克自治区建立友好省州关系，双方在农业科技、卫生健康、生态环保等诸多领域开展了一系列富有成效的合作。
As early as 2005, Kunshan Mondragon Industrial Park was established in Kunshan with the strong backup from the Mondragon Group and Kunshan government. At present, the park has 23 Spanish-invested enterprises, including Gestamp Auto Components (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., Edscha Automotive Components Kunshan Co., Ltd., Fagor Metalforming Machine Tool (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., Orkli (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., and other internationally renowned enterprises. By the end of 2022, the output value of Spanish enterprises in the park had exceeded 5 billion yuan.
早在2005年，西班牙蒙德拉贡集团与昆山牵手，在昆山市千灯镇成立了西班牙蒙德拉贡工业园。目前，园区拥有西班牙在华投资企业23家，包括海斯坦普汽车组件、爱德夏汽车零配件、法格锻压机床、法格霭德兰、奥可利电子等国际知名企业。截至2022年年底，园区内西班牙企业产值已突破50亿元。
In Juan Jose Zaballa's view, the relationship between the Basque Country and Jiangsu province was pretty much based on the high concentration of firms in Kunshan. "That makes a very good basis for further relationships. And that is what we should build upon in order to strengthen relationships between the Basque Country and Jiangsu province," he said.
在胡安何塞·萨巴亚看来，西班牙巴斯克地区和江苏省之间的关系，很大程度上建立在昆山高度集中的西班牙企业的基础上。“这为我们今后的关系奠定了良好的基础。我们应该在此之上，加强巴斯克地区和江苏省之间的关系。”
Since the establishment of China-Spain diplomatic ties on March 9, 1973, the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has steadily advanced with a sound momentum of development. In March this year, the 2023 China-Spain Year of Culture and Tourism kicked off. China and Spain will jointly launch dozens of activities in various forms throughout the year, covering performing arts, visual arts, cultural heritage and tourism. “That provides us with a very good general overview of what the tourism activity is going to be in the near future,” Juan Jose Zaballa commented.
自1973年3月9日两国建交以来，中国和西班牙经贸合作紧密，保持良好发展势头。今年3月，中西文化和旅游年开幕式如期举行，中西双方将陆续合作推出贯穿全年、形式多样的几十项精彩活动，涵盖表演艺术、视觉艺术、文化遗产、旅游等多个领域。“这为近期旅游业的态势提供了良好的前景，”胡安何塞·萨巴亚说道。
