Wuxi inks 79 projects in Singapore, Japan, South Korea

A trade and investment promotion delegation from Wuxi visited Singapore, South Korea, and Japan to carry out economic, trade, and cultural exchange activities, connect with top enterprises in Asia and even the world, and negotiate scientific and technological innovation, talent resource cooperation for win-win development.

The Wuxi delegation visited leading enterprises and well-known universities in Singapore by negotiating with senior executives, entrepreneurs, experts and scholars in the Asia Pacific headquarters of new multinational companies, and holding an international development cooperation exchange conference, hoping to promote the cooperation between Wuxi and Singapore in science and technology, economy and trade, culture, and to expand deeper cooperation in "the Belt and Road".

Wuxi and Singaporean Sembcorp Group reached a consensus to build Wuxi Singapore Science and Technology Innovation City by relying on the Wuxi Singapore Industrial Park, which was jointly built 30 years ago, so as to promote the upgrading of the park as a platform carrier, target Belt and Road countries and RCEP member countries, and attract more advanced technologies and enterprises to settle in Wuxi.

“Jiangsu is one of the most economically developed regions in China and Wuxi has a strong industrial foundation. We will build an industrial park with Singapore characteristics in Wuxi based on the previous investment experience of Singapore by introducing enterprises from marine and shipbuilding industry,” said Hu Zhuojun, Executive Director of THI Industrial Investment Group in Singapore.

South Korea and Japan are important trading partners of Wuxi by boasting significant advantages in fields such as integrated circuits, new energy, biopharmaceuticals, and the automotive industry, making them highly aligned with the industrial development of Wuxi, in particular strong complementarity in the industrial chain and broad cooperation space.

The Wuxi delegation visited well-known enterprises and institutions, held the China South Korea Wuxi Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Exchange Conference, and the Wuxi Tokyo Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation Exchange Conference.

Political, business, and academic guests from South Korea and Japan are optimistic about the investment prospects in Wuxi by expressing their intention to further deepen cooperation, promote industrial collaborative innovation between each other, and assist Wuxi in accelerating the construction of a modern industrial system.

“We look forward to using this event as a new starting point to continuously deepen cooperation between the two cities in areas such as artificial intelligence, new energy, and the biological industry, and to promote closer friendly relations between the two cities,” said Kim Doo-gyum, Mayor of Ulsan City, South Korea.

“As a close friend to Japan, Wuxi has beautiful cherry blossoms and a good investment environment. It is also a place where high-tech is concentrated. Our wish is to introduce as many high-end technology companies as possible into Wuxi in the future,” said Yoichi Ikeda, Chairman of Itochu (China) Group Co., Ltd.

Wuxi signed 79 cooperation projects in Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, with a total amount of 12.2 billion US dollars.

The Wuxi (Seoul) Business Innovation Exchange Center, Wuxi (Tokyo) Business Innovation Exchange Center, and Wuxi Cultural Tourism (Tokyo) Promotion Center were unveiled during the Wuxi delegation’s visit to the three countries. In the future, Wuxi will rely on these platforms to carry out cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, culture, and tourism with the local area, in order to better integrate and serve the overall situation of the country's opening-up to the outside world.
