In 2022, China achieved significant results in 11 aspects that include the scale of digital infrastructure, data resource system, and digital economy, according to the Digital China Development Report (2022) released by the Cyberspace Administration of China on Tuesday.

The report shows that China has significantly increased the scale of its digital infrastructure. As of the end of 2022, China had opened 2.312 million 5G base stations, with 561 million 5G users, accounting for over 60% of the global total. 110 cities across the country have reached the standard for gigabit city construction, and the gigabit optical network has been made accessible to over 500 million households.

China has recorded 1.845 billion mobile IoT terminal users, becoming the first country among major economies in the world to achieve the goal of "Superman of Things".

The report shows that China is accelerating the construction of a data resource system. In 2022, China recorded a data production of 8.1ZB, a year-on-year increase of 22.7%, with a global share of 10.5%, ranking second in the world.

In 2022, China recorded a digital economy scale of 50.2 trillion yuan, with a year-on-year nominal growth of 10.3%, and its proportion in GDP increased to 41.5%, ranking second in the world in total.

China reported steady growth in the digital industry. Last year, the electronic information manufacturing industry, software business and Industrial Internet core industry recorded operating revenue of 15.4 trillion yuan, 10.81 trillion yuan and 1.2 trillion yuan, up 5.5%, 11.2% and 15.5% year on year.
