China has registered 20.16 million schools at the compulsory education stage, with an annual enrollment of 34.3277 million students and a population of 159 million students last year, standing for 95.5% of the nine-year compulsory education enrollment rate. According to the 2022 National Education Development Statistics Bulletin released by the Ministry of Education, there are 3013 higher education institutions nationwide, with a student population of 46.55 million in from the previous year, standing for a gross enrolment ratio of 59.6%, 1.8 percentage points higher than that of the previous year.
