Preparations continue for the FISU World University Games, starting in the Chinese city of Chengdu at the end of July. Major venues are running test matches and conducting full rehearsals, making sure everything is ready for the opening day. Guo Tianqi reports.
A test match is underway at the judo venue for the Chengdu FISU Games. But the competitors are middle-school students, not professional athletes.
Despite this, the rehearsal aims to replicate the first day of the big competition, including preparations for potential emergencies.
YIN HAOYU High School Student "I pretended to hurt my knee. They fixed my leg first then put me on a stretcher. Very professional."
In total, more than 3,000 personnel took part in the rehearsal, featuring the arrival of delegates, officials and even the media.
GUO TIANQI Chengdu, Sichuan Province "Before the FISU games, many different venues rehearse the entire game procedure, inviting athletes and audiences to simulate different situations."
Emergency evacuation drills were also carried out in the stadium, presenting a logistical challenge.
"The volunteers, security personnel and other staff at the scene are very dedicated."
"The air conditioning system here is comfortable and the game is very intense."
As part of Chinese efforts to promote a greener and more sustainable society, most FISU venues are multi-functional. In the judo stadium, the seats are moveable, allowing it to host basketball and volleyball games as well as other commercial activities.
LIU ZHIYANG Manager, Judo Venue "All the equipment and facilities are ready. In the coming days, we'll conduct specific rehearsals to clear the detailed problems raised in the drill."
The judo competition will be held from July 28 to August 1, with a total of 16 gold medals up for grabs.
