East China’s Jiangsu province will further strengthen soil erosion control, according to a document released by the provincial government recently.

Jiangsu will strengthen the prevention and protection of soil erosion, strictly control soil erosion caused by human factors, and continuously improve its capacity for soil and water conservation management.

Jiangsu will increase prevention and protection efforts in key areas, accelerate the implementation of ecosystem protection and restoration projects, take preventive measures, and strengthen ecological restoration, water source conservation, vegetation protection, so as to prevent and reduce soil erosion.

Efforts will be made to explore new models for soil erosion control in plain areas by focusing on the sandy soil areas of the old watercourse of the Yellow River, coastal plain, and high sandy soil areas of the southern part of Nantong, and the riverbank slopes and surrounding farmland so as to implement systematic management of ditches, rivers, embankments, fields, forests, roads, and grasslands.

Jiangsu will also adjust and establish a joint meeting mechanism for water and soil conservation work of the provincial, municipal and county governments, form a regular consultation system, a coordination system for major issues, and a supervision and inspection system by requiring the water administrative department to play a leading role in organizing and coordinating.

By 2025, Jiangsu will strive to effectively control soil erosion in key areas such as hilly and mountainous areas and plain sandy areas, reduce the area of soil erosion by more than 90 square kilometers, build 400 ecological clean small watersheds, and achieve a soil erosion conservation rate of 98% in the province.
