The French musical based on the world-renowned play "Romeo and Juliet" is coming to the city of Nanjing this weekend. Performing at Nanjing Poly Grand Theatre from Friday to Sunday, the cast has prepared new designs and surprises in the classic title.
Written by Gérard Presgurvic as his first musical work and premiered in 2001, the musical has been localized in more than 20 countries and regions with over 10 million spectators worldwide. Being the reason for many people to fall in love with French musicals, "Roméo et Juliette" was crowned as "the greatest pop musical show of 21st century".
The performance in Nanjing features Damien Sargue as Romeo and Cécilia Cara as Juliet, who were among the original cast of the show's debut two decades ago. A fan meeting was held right before the performance at Poly Grand Theatre to interact with the audience of Nanjing and present a small slice of the show's music.
Red and blue, the iconic colors of the two great families of the story, the Montagues and the Capulets, have been embedded not only in the stage and costume design, but also by Poly Theatre in the immersive audience experience.
