Jiangsu's ports record cargo throughput of 1.65 billion tons in H1

Ports in east China’s Jiangsu province recorded a cargo throughput of 1.65 billion tons in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 6%, latest statistics show.

At the chemical terminal in Xuwei Port Area of Lianyungang, the 50-thousand-ton SS "Yushan" was busy unloading propane. The ship shuttles back and forth from the Port of Markusahuk in the United States every more than 20 days to provide the production materials for the Lianyungang Petrochemical Industry Base.

In the first half of the year, Xuwei Port recorded 1013 incoming and outgoing ships, with a total throughput of 22.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 98%. Liquid bulk cargo and coal that is related to the port industry account for over 80% of the total throughput.

“Since the beginning of this year, Xuwei Port Area has recorded a two-fold growth in cargo throughput, indicating the strong development momentum of the port economy. In the first half of this year, Xuwei New Area recorded 16.4 billion yuan in gross regional product, up 125% year on year, and 84.3 billion yuan in industrial output value of the industries above designated size, up 158% year on year”, An Junwei, Deputy Director of the Xuwei New Area Administration, said.

With the explosive growth of exports of China-made cars, Taicang Port recorded export of 172 thousand car in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 11.3 times, including 90 thousand new energy vehicles, accounting for 52.3% of the total.

“Since August 18th last year, we have achieved a breakthrough in quantity in the export of frame boxes for Haite Motors”, Wang Limin, Business Manager of Taicang International Container Terminal Co., Ltd., said.

Jiangsu has strengthened its international logistics service capabilities and opened 7 new direct sea routes to important international ports, especially important strategic material bases.

In the first half of the year, ports in Jiangsu recorded cargo, foreign trade, and container throughput of 1.65 billion tons, 300 million tons, and 12.002 million TEUs, with year-on-year growth of 6.0%, 13.9%, and 6.9%.

“Since the beginning of this year, we have actively built a logistics channel network with deeper internal circulation radiation and wider external circulation links, systematically reducing economic circulation costs, and striving to create port freight hubs with higher transportation efficiency and lower transportation costs. This has greatly enhanced the aggregation of international and domestic market resources in Jiangsu, created new competitive advantages for Jiangsu's industrial agglomeration, and provided important support for the high-quality development of Jiangsu's economy”, Chen Ming, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Jiangsu Port Group, said.
