Universities in East China’s Jiangsu province has got ready for the start of the autumn semester while primary and secondary schools across the province have beefed up inspection on food supply and school bus safety.
Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics welcomed the 2023 freshmen on Sunday with slogans and display boards of "Welcome New Students" omnipresent on campus.
The university authorities have set up shuttle buses and unmanned luggage transfer vehicles at the entrance to provide one-stop luggage transportation for new students.
For new students with financial difficulties, the university has set up a green channel to provide consultation on funding policies, loan processing, and distribution of admission packages to ensure the smooth admission of the needy new students.
“New students with difficulties can apply for tuition deferral after scanning the QR code. It is very convenient and fast to deduct his tuition and accommodation expenses when the loan is allocated. We also provide them with living and transportation subsidies”, Tang Zhiwen, Director of the Student Assistance Management Center at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, said.
“These are the daily necessities provided by the school, which are very practical. I really feel the warmth provided by the school, which can help us quickly integrate into this big family”, Yu Yi, a freshman at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, said.
The Changzhou campus of Hohai University and Kunshan Duke University have also welcomed the arrival of the freshmen.
Primary and secondary schools in Jiangsu have made preparations for the start of the new semester. The local outlets of Xinhua Bookstore have distributed free textbooks for the new semester, ensuring that everyone has one book available before the start of the semester.
“We have distributed 70% of the textbooks to the schools. We have added manpower and vehicles for delivery upon arrival to ensure that every student has one book at the beginning of the school year”, Liu Changzheng, Manager of Warehousing and Logistics Department of Xinhua Bookstore in Donghai County, said.
Zhenjiang has strengthened food safety inspections in the school canteens by organizing some parents to visit and accompany meals.
“We have collaborated with market supervision departments and education departments to conduct ‘surprise inspections’ on school canteens, and regularly conducted employee training to improve their professionalism and abilities”, Zuo Zhong, Deputy Director of the Education Equipment and Work-study Management Center, Zhenjiang, said.
