Highways and railways in Jiangsu are bracing for a return peak of the summer travel as the new semester is about to start.
From August 25th to September 10th, colleges and universities will start the new semester. The country’s railway network is expected to send 6.8 million student passengers during the period and 950 thousand passengers on peak days.
The railway department will analyze the trend of student passenger flow in advance based on ticket pre-sale and waiting data, and promptly add temporary passenger trains in popular destinations.
“Students carry a lot of luggage, and there is a high passenger flow entering the station at a certain time. Therefore, we remind student passengers to schedule sufficient waiting time. We also remind them to take good care of their belongings and luggage in case of loss”, Hu Jun, Station Master of Nanjing Railway Station, said.
The station reminds that college students must reverify their eligibility for discounted ticket sales every new academic year, which can be manually verified at the ticket window or automatically verified on self-service ticket machines.
There has been a significant increase in the number of students returning to Nanjing by long-distance bus, according to Nanjing Coach Terminal.
“Some of the passengers are college students from cities in Jiangsu, including Huai'an. Some other passengers are college students from Anhui. The recent passenger routes are dominated by college students, and it is expected that the passenger flow will gradually decrease by mid-September”, Chen Dan’na, Attendant of Nanjing Coach Terminal, said.
Starting from August 28th, Nanjing Coach Terminal will sell bus tickets for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the National Day holiday, which will result in a sharp increase in highway passenger flow. Passengers are advised to make travel plans in advance.
“We expect the peak passenger flow to be on September 28th and September 29th. To this end, we remind passengers to stagger peak hours and purchase tickets in advance. Passengers can check routes and purchase tickets on various online platforms before traveling. Passengers carrying children can declare their child tickets in advance. Passengers are required to bring their ID card when entering the station as we implement a real name ticket verification system”, Chen Dan’na, Attendant of Nanjing Coach Terminal, said.
