Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province plans to take three to five years to become a city of gastronomy and a paradise of shopping, according to recently-published measures.
Local authorities will achieve the goal by improving shopping malls, gathering consumer brands, developing fashion and food industries, and optimizing consumption services.

Wuxi cuisine and the food culture in the Jiangnan region will be fully explored to develop fine dining. By 2026, Wuxi will have cultivated and introduced 20 Black Pearl restaurants and 20 Golden Phoenix Tree restaurants, the Chinese equivalents of Michelin-starred restaurants. By the same year, the city is expected to have 30 catering businesses whose annual operating revenue exceeds 100 million yuan ($13.72 million).
