9 prefecture level cities in Jiangsu have got the go-ahead in the overall land spatial planning, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Natural Resources said on Tuesday.
According to the plan, six cities, including Nantong and Lianyungang, will continue to make efforts in optimizing the development and protection pattern of national land space, strengthening the protection of historical and cultural features, and building a modern infrastructure system.
The plan has further clarified the development space, goals, and paths of each prefecture level city. For example, Nantong will deepen the implementation of the "1+3" key functional area strategy, focusing on building it as a gateway city on the north wing of Shanghai, a national comprehensive transportation hub city, a modern marine city with rich river and sea characteristics, and a national historical and cultural city.
Huai'an will actively integrate into national strategies such as the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and focus on building a modern central city in the northern part of the Yangtze River Delta, a national comprehensive transportation hub, a modern industrial highland in the Jianghuai region, and a famous city with cultural charm along the Grand Canal.
The approval also made specific requirements for the six prefecture level cities in terms of farmland ownership, permanent basic farmland protection area, ecological protection red line area, and urban development boundary expansion multiplication by 2035.
Previously, the provincial government officially approved the overall land and space planning of Xuzhou, Taizhou, and Suqian on August 17th in the first batch of national plans.
The approval of Nantong and five other prefecture level cities means that the overall land spatial planning of the 9 prefecture level cities has been approved.
The overall spatial planning of Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Suzhou has all been submitted, as required, to the State Council for approval.
