Agricultural technology departments across Jiangsu Province have stepped up their efforts in disease and pest monitoring and warning by providing in-depth guidance and services to rural areas, and making every effort to minimize damage and losses so as to ensure a high yield of autumn crops.
During the autumn crop field management season, Jiangsu dispatched 13 expert groups to various prefecture level cities to guide the scientific spraying of pesticides and fertilization in a bid to improve the yield of autumn grain and ensure that farmers seize more precise and efficient opportunities for disease prevention and control.
“The oviposition period of insects is the best prevention and control period, with high killing power. To treat insects, it is necessary to kill the eggs instead of the insects, because the larger the insects, the harder it is to treat them. Spraying pesticides on the eggs will immediately eliminate them”, Wei Yunlong, a farmer in Danyang City, said.
“We have strictly controlled the requirements of pest and disease information by adopting unmanned aerial vehicle plant protection operations, which is more timely and efficient in prevention and control time”, Bian Jiaxiang, a farmer in Yancheng, said.
“We suggest that farmers prevent and control diseases on the basis of the growth process of rice, comply with scientific usage requirements such as pesticide safety intervals so as to avoid excessive pesticide residues in rice to ensure the quality and safety of agricultural products”, Zhu Yibo, Agronomist at Rudong County Plant Protection Station, said.
Based on a comprehensive analysis of the current growth of autumn grain, disease and pest control, meteorological conditions, and other factors, the agricultural and rural departments predict that it is more likely for the occurrence of diseases and pests during the early stage. It is therefore recommended that localities pay attention to typhoons and continuous rainfall, grasp the growth process of different varieties of crops in varied regions, and carry out targeted disease and pest prevention and management guidance for different types of fields according to the trend of diseases and pests during the ear stage.
