East China’s Jiangsu province has recorded a significant increase in ship exports since the beginning of this year. From January to July, the province recorded an export of 35.09 billion yuan for various types of ships, a year-on-year increase of 43.8%, ranking first in the country, according to statistics released by Nanjing Customs.

A Zhenjiang-based shipbuilding enterprise is about to deliver an 82000-ton-bulk cargo ship to a Greek customer.

“Almost all of our products are exported, with Europe being the main export destination. Our order has been scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, with an estimated sales revenue of 12 billion RMB”, Zheng Xishan, General Manager of Jiangsu Xinhantong Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., said.

With the improvement of the import and export trade environment at home and abroad, and the continuous development of the maritime market, China's shipbuilding industry has shown a vigorous development trend since the beginning of this year. In the first half of the year alone, the country’s shipbuilding completion volume, new orders received, and handheld orders increased by 14.2%, 67.7%, and 20.5% year-on-year, with about 9% exported to foreign countries.

Many shipbuilding enterprises in the province have worked overtime to cope with the rising demand for international orders.

“Our project now has about 200 people working together, with 120 people arranged for night shifts to ensure the delivery of this project by the end of the year. We are working on an oil and gas project for an Australian oil field with very high standards”, Zhao Dongsheng, Project Manager of Nantong COSCO Shipping Engineering Co., Ltd., said.

Faced with the constantly upgrading market demand, Jiangsu has continued to increase the research and development of high value-added ship technology in a bid to promote enterprises to deeply cultivate segmented markets by introducing cutting-edge ship manufacturing technologies, including liquid chemical ships, high-end ro-ro passenger ships, LNG dual fuel powered ships, and ultra large container ships.

In response to the opening of the Arctic navigation channel, an ice-grade green intelligent multi-purpose river sea direct ship has been upgraded and optimized, with the support of the provincial scientific and technological achievements transformation project.

“We have relied on the technological innovation research and development center in Jiangsu to optimize the research and development of ice-grade green ships, with intelligence as the leading factor to ensure that energy consumption is lower than all similar products. This is in line with the development of our entire industry and also meets the requirements of international customers”, Zhu Bin, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., said.

As a major player in the shipbuilding and marine industry in the country, Jiangsu aims to build a world-class shipbuilding and marine advanced manufacturing cluster to further enhance industrial concentration, modernization level of the entire industry chain, and competitiveness of advantageous enterprises, form an industrial pattern led by large backbone shipbuilding enterprises and with staggered development of large, medium, and small shipbuilding enterprises.
