Primary and secondary school students in east China’s Jiangsu province were immersed in the experience of the Chinese culture on the first day of the new semester.
The first lesson of Langya Road Primary School in Nanjing was carried out around inheriting Chinese culture by singing Chinese character songs, making Chinese character calligraphy shows, and telling Chinese character fairy tales. The students also showcased the achievements and gains of summer comprehensive practice.
“We hope that children can inherit Chinese culture, become confident masters of culture, hone their character and skills, and achieve comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor”, Qi Yundong, Secretary of the Party Branch of Langya Road Primary School in Nanjing, said.
On the first day of school, first-year students from Liyang and Yandu attended the pen-opening ceremony, a traditional Chinese cultural entrance ceremony. The children felt the sacred mission of learning and the essence of respecting teachers and loving to learn.
Xuzhou focused on the three major themes of "cultivating morality through literature", "illuminating etiquette through literature", and "moistening the heart through literature", to create a cultural inheritance platform for teenagers that integrates knowledge, interest, and practicality.
In Huai'an, students from Zhou Enlai Red Army Primary School visited Wu Chengen's former residence to explore the creative origins of the world's literary treasures and classic work "Journey to the West".
“In my future studies, I will read more classical masterpieces and be accompanied by the fragrance of books so as to grow happily through reading”, Zhang Qianyi, a student of Zhou Enlai Red Army Primary School in Huai'an City, said.
“We will organize students to visit the library and museum practice base so as to allow them to understand the changes of the Chinese culture, touch the context of the Chinese culture, experience the charm of the Chinese culture, and absorb the essence of the Chinese culture through the rich curriculum materials and personal experience of visiting scenic spots and historical sites”, Xi Jiapeng, Director of Ideological and Moral Construction Department for Minors of the Publicity Department of the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee, said.
Through patriotic education, various regions in Jiangsu have cultivated students' socialist core values to make them strive to be good teenagers in the new era. The education department of Guanyun County invited Wang Shihua, a national model of the times and honorary director of the Kaishan Island militia post, to the campus to tell the story of guarding the island for 32 years and promote the spirit of patriotism and dedication.
The Experimental Primary School in Jiangyan District, Taizhou City organized a military experience activity, where children learned queue movements, experienced crawling through grasslands, and established a sense of national defense and national security.
In Suzhou, a new school named after Academician Yang Jiaxi, a scientist who contributed to the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" project, welcomed the first batch of students. Under the guidance of the teachers, the children gained a deeper understanding of the scientist's pioneering story.
