The opening ceremony of the 2023 Zijin Cultural and Art Festival was held on Monday at the Yancheng Cultural and Art Center Grand Theater. Zhang Aijun, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee was present at the opening ceremony together with Vice Governor Xu Ying.
The Zijin Culture and Art Festival is hosted by the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The event will continue until December, with opening and closing performances, stage art performances, and nearly a hundred events covering various categories such as drama and music.
The art festival, with a main venue in Nanjing, and sub venues in Yancheng, Huai'an, Suqian, and Yangzhou, will deliver 30 newly-created stage performances to over 20 theaters across the province.
During the art festival, mass cultural performances and exhibitions will also be held throughout the province to gather strong spiritual momentum and further promote the construction of a cultural powerhouse and the new chapter of modernization construction of a new Jiangsu.
The opening performance of the art festival is the large-scale Yangju drama "Zheng Banqiao" created by the Yangzhou Yangju Research Institute. The drama portrays the artistic life of Zheng Banqiao, a representative figure of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou", in an innovative and upright manner, showcasing his noble character and people-oriented thinking, while also triggering profound insights and reflections from the audience.
Since its inception 6 years ago, the Zijin Culture and Art Festival has become a platform to showcase the strength and quality of Jiangsu's literature and art, a platform for the exchange of literary achievements and talents, and a shared platform for the spiritual and cultural life of the people.
