East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development set forth in this year’s government work report.
With the last main cable strand pulled in place Monday morning, the main cable installation of the Longtan Yangtze River Bridge was completed, marking a significant progress in the construction of the upper structure of the bridge. The Longtan Yangtze River Bridge consists of two main cables, each consisting of 126 cable strands and one central air supply and ventilation duct.
Each cable strand is composed of 127 high-strength steel wires with a diameter of 6mm. A single cable strand is 2891 meters long, and the total length of all steel wires in the main cable can circle the earth 2.3 times. The total weight of a single main cable is equivalent to the weight of 200 high-speed railway carriages.
“The main function of the main cable is to serve as a lifeline on both sides of a suspension bridge, and all lifting loads are lifted on this main cable, including the bridge deck below and the operating channels. A 6mm wire can withstand up to 1960 megapascals,” said Ai Guoqing, Executive Deputy Manager of Section A5 Project of Longtan Yangtze River Bridge.
With the Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River high-speed railway to be operational, the Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, and Jiangyin high-speed railway hubs will be put into use simultaneously.
“The Jintan High-Speed Railway Hub has built multiple transfer structures, including a comprehensive transfer hub building, transfer channels, and a wind and rain corridor by connecting the entrance and exit of the high-speed railway with long-distance passenger station, bus stations, taxis, and ride hailing parking lots. Passengers can gain easy access to different transport means within a range of less than 200 meters,” said Si Dongwen, Director of the Engineering Technology Department of the Jintan High-Speed Railway Hub Project.
In Nantong, the entire track laying for the Yangkou-Lusi Railway has been completed, and the construction team is completing the final work of the station building and other supporting facilities.
Connecting coastal port areas such as Yangkou, Tongzhou Bay, Dongzao, and Lvsi, the Yangkou-Lusi Railway is an important component of the container freight system at the new port of Tongzhou Bay.
“At present, the main works of the platform canopy and station building at Tongzhou Bay Station have been completed with the overall decoration going on smoothly. Nearly 200 workers are working overtime to make the final push for the opening of the railway,” Yan Xinghao, Site Manager of the Yangkou Lvsi Railway Project, said.
