East China’s Jiangsu province recorded a year-on-year increase of 30.4% in imports and exports to the five Central Asian countries from January to August, according to statistics released by the Nanjing Customs.
In the first 8 months, 70% of Jiangsu's exports to the five Central Asian countries were mechanical and electrical products, with exports reaching 8.69 billion yuan, an increase of 54.5% year on year. The exports of solar cells, household appliances, automatic data processing equipment, and automotive parts increased by 16.1 times, 128.1%, 63%, and 127.5%, respectively.
The five Central Asian countries refer to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
In the production workshop of Lida (China) Textile Instrument Co., Ltd., workers were conducting final debugging on a batch of spinning equipment to be exported to Uzbekistan. Independently developed by Lida Textile, the spinning equipment is highly favored by the Central Asian market.
“We will continue to enhance our competitiveness, from the research and development of new products to how to reduce costs and enhance efficiency. We will have more orders and the enterprise will have a long-term development,” said Zhu Hongying, Chief Financial Officer of Lida (China) Textile Instrument Co., Ltd.
In the first eight months, Jiangsu operated 695 freight trains to and from Central Asia, an increase of 17.2%. The import and export of railway transportation amounted to 6.73 billion yuan, accounting for 48.9% of Jiangsu's total import and export value to Central Asia.
Under the supervision of the customs, 192 transit commodity cars were loaded onto the freight train to be ready for departure from Lianyungang Port and to be transported to Central Asian countries by traveling westward along the New Eurasian Continental Bridge and exiting through Khorgos Port in northwest China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
“We have fully revitalized the port's transportation capacity and unblocked the international trade channel by comprehensively utilizing multiple customs clearance reform measures such as ‘rapid railway clearance’ and early declaration,” said Wang Daolong, Deputy Director of Lianyungang Customs Office in the Port Area.
