East China’s Jiangsu province has focused on the goal of building a high-level agricultural powerhouse by implementing classified policies to make improvement, continuously improving the rural living environment, and building up strength for the industrial development of rural areas.
Qiaoxi Village in Shanghuang Town, Liyang City has recently started improving the laying of sewage pipelines. These sewage pipelines, known as capillaries, can better ensure the direct discharge of rural sewage and ensure the cleanliness of rural waterways.
Qiaoxi Village in Liyang City is adjacent to Changdang Lake Wetland Park with a river passing through the village, making it a typical Jiangnan village.
In the past two years, Qiaoxi Village has built new roads, promoted street lighting, and improved the appearance. However, the mixed network of underground rainwater and sewage has become a weakness for the development of beautiful rural areas.
Since the start of this year, the government of Shanghuang Town has started to carry out village environmental improvement actions in 8 administrative villages by laying a focus on the transformation of rainwater and sewage.
“Previously, the water from septic tanks was discharged directly into the river without passing through circular pipes. Now that the pipes of all sizes have been collected, they will no longer be directly discharged into the river and will no longer produce the same amount of sewage as before,” said Shi Xifeng, a villager of Qiaoxi Village, Shanghuang Town, Liyang City.
“Now that our living environment has improved and village governance has also improved, we want to take advantage of the unique advantages of the wetland park to further invest in homestays and farmhouses in some villages, develop rural tourism, and promote the income of the village,” Huang Jinjun, CPC Secretary and Head of the Village Administration, Qiaoxi Village, Liyang City, said.
Yuba Village in Dagong Town of Hai'an city has built an ecological park for leisure and sightseeing based on the pear fruit industry. Since the start of this year, the village has increased agricultural experience projects such as fishing and fruit picking, making it the preferred destination for nearby outings.
“On weekends, we bring our children over to play, allowing them to learn a lot of agricultural knowledge and experience the rural scenery here,” a tourist said.
Recently, Yuba Village is building a rural revitalization hall that combines the functions of agricultural product storage and display and sales so as to open a live training room to help local agricultural products reach various parts of the country and help villagers to increase their income.
“My family has five or six mu of farmland, which is transferred and contracted to the pear orchard to bring an annual income of five or six thousand yuan, with an annual dividend of over six hundred yuan. My wife and I work in the pear orchard, earning an annual income of 50000 to 60000 yuan,” a villager said.
Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has continuously improved its rural living environment and made every effort to promote the construction of beautiful rural areas. As of the end of July, 6 counties, 60 townships, and 673 villages in the province have been included in the list of the first batch of ecological livable and beautiful rural demonstration.
Jiangsu will also focus on supporting the deep processing, digital transformation, and cultivation of new formats of agricultural products in various regions so as to continuously promote the integrated development of the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries, and injecting more momentum into rural development.
