Farmers in east China’s Jiangsu province are taking advantage of the recent spell of fine weather to harvest autumn crops. Let’s take a close look.
This year, Wuxi has planted two new rice varieties, Hubble 1123 Xidao 3 and Jiaxiyou 610.
Hubble 1123 Xidao 3 is a high-quality fragrant conventional japonica rice variety with a local ripening period of 145 days. It has the characteristics of beige like jade, soft and glutinous taste, and can meet the needs of mid to high-end consumer groups.
At present, Wuxi has harvested 500 mu of early rice varieties. In the next step, Wuxi will continue to introduce and promote new agricultural technologies and equipment, focus on cultivating new varieties of demonstration seed industry, and promote new development of agricultural tourism integration.
In the corn and soybean compound planting area in Donghai County, multiple harvesters were operating in full gear, shuttling back and forth in the fields.
Peng Zhisong, a local farmer, said that experts provided technical guidance throughout the entire process from seed selection to planting, so corn production did not decrease and an additional crop of soybeans was harvested.
“Corn has increased by one or two hundred kilograms from last year, while soybeans have increased by 50 kilograms. This year, we have increased production and have more confidence to continue planting,” Peng Zhisong, a local farmer in Donghai County, said.
Agricultural technicians in Donghai County provided comprehensive training to planters by using mechanized sowing throughout the process and planting protection drones for disease and pest control, greatly improving the technical level of composite planting. At the same time, planting subsidies were distributed in strict compliance with the national standards.
“This year, we have once again achieved a bumper harvest in the compound planting of soybeans and corn, far exceeding the target yield, thanks to the combination of good varieties and methods, scientific management of drone flight prevention technology, and timely mechanized harvesting to achieve the return of particles to the warehouse,” said Chen Guibao, Senior Agronomist, Taolin Town Agricultural Technology Promotion Station, Donghai County.
