The First International Conference on Ageing-Responsive Civilization was held in Yixing on Saturday and Sunday under the joint sponsorship of Jiangsu Provincial Ageing-Responsive Civilization Think Tank and Jiangsu Provincial Moral Development Think Tank, with international participants from countries including Canada, Japan, and the US.
Jiangsu is a province with a relatively high level of aging population in China. Realizing the coordinated development of the elderly cause and the economy and society, ensuring that the elderly live a peaceful and comfortable life, is the mission and responsibility of the society in developing an ageing-responsive civilization, and also the interpretation and practice of the connotation and value of the aging civilization.
The International Conference on Ageing-Responsive Civilization is meant to establish an international cultural exchange and mutual learning platform to provide intellectual support and practical guidance for the development of the aging industry in China and Jiangsu.
Over the past two days in the town of Yaohu, more than 300 experts and scholars from home and abroad conducted heated discussions on topics such as "Aging and Social Civilization", "Elderly Welfare and National Strategy", and "Elderly Industry and Smart Elderly Care". The Yaohu Consensus on Ageing-responsive Civilization was also announced by participants at the ending of the Conference, providing a guideline for China and the world to face the challenge of an ageing population.
Jiangsu was China's first province to enter the phase of population ageing, with 21.84 percent of its population aged over 60. While establishing the Provincial Ageing-Responsive Civilization Think Tank, Jiangsu has been actively conducting academic researches and adopting new policies to prepare for the shift of population structure and focus on the well-being of the people.
