Migratory birds have been flying to various parts of Jiangsu to overspend the winter.
A family of three wintering red-crowned cranes have been found in the national rare bird protection zone in Yancheng. This is the first time since the beginning of autumn that a red-crowned crane has been discovered to overwinter in the Yancheng Rare Bird Protection Zone. The Jiangsu Yancheng Wetland Rare Bird National Nature Reserve is an important habitat for migratory birds and an important wintering place for waterfowl.
“The overwintering red-crowned crane arrived on October 25th this year, a few days earlier than usual. Perhaps due to the influence of the cold air a few days ago. Generally speaking, a large number of red crowned cranes fly here around November 15th,” said Chen Guoyuan, Deputy Director of Resource Management and Protection Department of Jiangsu Yancheng Wetland Rare Bird National Nature Reserve.
Nearly a million migratory birds stop, breed, or overwinter here every year. Every late autumn, flocks of rare birds such as the red crowned crane, gray crane, and oriental white stork arrive here one after another. Throughout the winter, they freely soar here, forming a beautiful scenery.
In the coastal wetland in Dongtai city, the core area of the first world natural heritage site in Jiangsu, a large number of wintering migratory birds have arrived here to feed freely on the mudflat wetland.
The 10000-mu Tiaozini high tide habitat saw the gathering of tens of thousands of waterfowl gather every day, including wild geese and ducks that have wintered and transit waterfowl that are about to migrate south. These waterfowl will follow the footsteps of autumn and gradually move south to make way for more migratory birds that will have wintered here in the future.
Tens of thousands of water fowls have flown to Shuoxiang Lake, a backup water source for Guannan County. In recent years, Guannan County has continuously stepped up its efforts to protect the ecological environment of the Shuoxiang Lake area so as to have improved the quality of the ecological environment and water quality, creating an excellent habitat for overwintering wildlife and presenting a beautiful picture of increasingly harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
