East China’s Jiangsu province has focused on issues related to elderly care and healthcare by continuing to launch a series of practical measures for the convenience of the people.
Yang Shanping, a 99-year-old solitary elderly person in Nantong, is taken care of by her two sons in turn. When it comes to the inconveniences in daily life, taking a shower has become a big problem. Early this year, the community included her home in the home renovation project for the elderly, and in August, construction workers started to make renovation.
“We first remove the bathtub, level the ground, and then conduct a waterproof test. If there are no problems, we will start tiling,” said Xiao Peng, the person in charge of renovation project in Chongchuan District, Nantong City.
“The construction team is very responsible, and we are basically satisfied. Our thank goes to the government for solving the actual big problem for my mother,” said Zhang Zhixing, Yang Shanping’s son.
Since the beginning of this year, Chongchuan District has continued to focus on the transformation of home-based aging facilities as a practical matter of people's livelihood by adopting the "one household, one renovation plan" approach to ensure implementation. As of now, the district has completed free home renovation for 400 households with elderly people.
Yandu District, Yancheng City recently distributed a batch of AED equipment to the local schools. AED is a medical device that can be used by non-professionals to rescue patients with sudden cardiac death.
Schools are providing training on the use of AED and first aid knowledge such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation to teachers and students, ensuring that they can respond promptly in case of emergencies and seize the "golden 4 minutes" of first aid.
“By the end of August, we had installed and equiped AED in various schools. In the next step, we will carefully organize training on the use of AED operations,” said Chen Haigao, Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Vice President of the Red Cross Society in Yandu District, Yancheng City.
