Farmers across Jiangsu province are getting busy with sowing autumn crops such as wheat and oil-seed rape in the hope of securing a bumper harvest next year.
Farmers in Suqian and Yancheng made advance plan and dispatched agricultural machinery to plant wheat after the rice harvest to ensure the connection between harvesting and sowing.
“We contacted the driver in advance, collected the funds, and leveled the land for agricultural machinery planting so as to complete the planting by the end of the month,” said Du Weimei, the owner of a Grain Planting Family Farm in Sihong County.
“We sowed over 400 mu of wheat and work was done in two days, which was quite efficient. In the next step, we will start spraying and weeding immediately,” said Zhang Yan, a major grain grower in Binhuai Town, Binhai County.
Farmers from all over the province have seized the opportunity to level the fields for deep plowing so as to mechanically sow wheat and rapeseed seeds on sunny days.
Kunshan has unified the transportation and centralized distribution of agricultural materials and pesticides. Changzhou has provided door-to-door services such as rice and wheat seed mixing, soil and fertilizer testing, and drone flight prevention. Agricultural technicians from various regions in Jiangsu have promoted key technologies such as targeted fertilization and frost protection in rural areas in a bid to promote stable and high yield of wheat.
