The shipbuilding industry in east China’s Jiangsu province has maintained its leading position in the country since 2020 in the three major indicators despite the adversities caused by the changing international situations and the global spread of the covid-19 epidemic so that the global shipbuilding industry has encountered many challenges and resulted in shrinking market demand.

Qidong COSCO SHIPPING Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. delivered last Tuesday the large-scale FPSO offshore floating production storage vessel SS Anna. FPSO is the core facility for the development of offshore oil and gas resources.

The storage vessel delivered last Tuesday is the second order the company has received from the same foreign owner.

The company is speeding up the construction of four large ship projects. The construction of N999 round project, BP's first FPSO in China, has entered the final stage.

With the cost of building running up to more than 400 million US dollars, the BP project has posed great difficulties for Qidong COSCO.

Project manager Li Rongji said that this project indicates that Qidong COSCO has gained the trust of customers around the world.

The construction of a ship tends to cost about 100 million yuan, resulting in fierce competition among enterprises in various countries. Despite frequent global trade frictions and the impact of the epidemic, COSCO Qidong CPSCO has relied on quality to gain the upper hand in the severe market competition.

While seizing the opportunities and policy incentives of new industries, Qidong COSCO has gradually phased out low-end shipbuilding production capacity, and promoted the research and development and upgrading of marine clean energy production ships and clean energy fuel ship equipment.

At present, Qidong COSCO has achieved a number of technological innovation achievements in offshore wind power and chemical plant modules, becoming the first offshore engineering enterprise in China to pass the SHELL "green card" certification and breaking the long-term technological monopoly of foreign companies.

At the same time, in response to the development of global marine resources towards the deep sea and the far sea, Qidong COSCO has further renovated and expanded its dock to meet the requirements for the construction of larger ships.

The pioneering and continuous research and development in the global green and clean energy marine equipment market has enabled Qidong COSCO to gain one-stop service capabilities from design to construction and delivery. By opening the door to the international high-end market, Qidong COSCO has filled with production schedule with orders until 2024.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic at the beginning of the year, more than 10 shipbuilding and offshore manufacturing enterprises in Qidong Offshore and Ship Industrial Park encountered logistical difficulties. The park administration and the customs wasted no time to set up a working group to help enterprises smooth logistics channels.

In recent years, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Department of Industry and Information Technology have issued a package of measures to strengthen the financial integration of upstream and downstream small and medium-sized enterprises, increase support for industrial chain innovation, reduce the impact of the epidemic, and guide and support the transformation and upgrading of shipping enterprises so that Jiangsu's marine equipment have accounted for more than 25% of the national total.
