Jiangsu invests multi-billion yuan in water conservancy projects

Water conservancy departments at all levels in Jiangsu province made every effort to speed up project construction by investing 7.45 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects in the first half of this year as a sign of coordinating epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development.

At the Huangshu River-Youdun Port project site of the Wusong River Remediation Project, square piles over 9 meters long were driven into the water one by one.

At present, the project has completed the pile foundation and cover plate works, and the construction of the ecological block retaining wall is in progress.

With a total investment of over 15 billion yuan, the Jiangsu section of the Wusong River will further improve the flood control engineering system in the Taihu Lake Basin and lay a solid water conservancy foundation for the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.

"Since the start of construction on May 16, we have invested 8 million yuan on the completion of the first bidding section of the Wusong River project. At the same time we have invested 85 million yuan for land acquisition and the relocation of residents," said Jin Yuanlin, Director of Kunshan Water Conservancy Project Construction Management Office.

In order to speed up the construction of major water conservancy projects, the Provincial Department of Water Resources will conduct research and analysis on key projects that have not been started within the annual construction tasks, and analyze them one by one, speed up the handling of pre-requisites, and press ahead with project bidding.

Jiangsu is also accelerating a number of water conservancy projects under construction, including the flood detention area around Hongze Lake, one of the country's 150 major water conservancy projects.

The local water conservancy department recruited workers locally, which effectively solved the labor shortage and provided jobs for the residents in the surrounding areas.

"I am responsible for laying mud blocks here. I can earn five or six thousand yuan a month and I am very happy that I can make money at my doorstep," said Han Fajun, a bricklayer.

"Our total investment in Sihong County is 2.016 billion yuan. In 2022, we plan to invest 480 million yuan. By the end of June 2022 260 million yuan had been invested," said Yuan Hao, Deputy Director of Sihong Construction Office of Jiangsu Water Source Company.

The provincial water conservancy construction department dispatched working groups to the sites of key water conservancy projects to coordinate and advance the project smoothly.

In the first half of the year, the province invested 7.45 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects, accounting for 55.2%.

On average, key water conservancy projects under construction provide more than 8 thousand jobs per day, and more than 11 thousand jobs during peak periods, which have effectively played a role in stabilizing investment, promoting growth, and stabilizing employment in water conservancy construction.
