East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development set forth in this year’s government work report. JSBC has the story.

The first pair of 500-meter-long steel rails on the South Yangtze River Intercity Railway were laid on Wednesday morning, indicating the start of the construction of the entire line and laying the foundation for its opening to traffic in 2023.

The starting point of this track laying lies near Jiangyin Station of the South Yangtze River Intercity Railway.

The workers work in the directions of Shanghai and Nanjing concurrently by using the current domestic advanced multi-line track laying machine and the traditional track laying machine for joint operation.

In the construction, the intelligent traffic dispatching command system is used to monitor the running status and operation position of the track laying machine, long-rail transport vehicle and rail welding vehicle around the clock so as to conduct unified dispatching and commanding.

By increasing the construction efficiency by 50%, the workers laid 12 kilometers of track per day, paving the way for the completion of the track laying construction task in March 2023.

"After laying this long rail, we also need to weld all the rail seams and the precision must be controlled within 0.2 mm to ensure the smooth operation of the high-speed rail and the comfort of passengers," said Liang Peike, Manager of the track laying branch South Yangtze River Intercity Railway.

The 278.53-kilometer-long South Yangtze River Intercity Railway line starts from Nanjing South Railway Station and ends in Taicang City with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
