Jiangsu revs up major investment project construction

East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill the set goals for social and economic development. JSBC has the story.

Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge, the world's largest span suspension bridge, has started drilling the bored piles of the north main tower of the bridge in the south channel, marking that the bridge construction has entered the construction stage of the main works.

"97 bored piles with a diameter of 2.8m are set under the cushion cap of the north tower of the South Channel Bridge, which are arranged in a combination of determinant and quincunx with the longest pile 103m long. In the face of such a super long pile group foundation, we must complete it with high quality to lay the most solid foundation for the tower of the 350m world's highest suspension bridge," said Yu Wen, Deputy Production Manager of Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang- Rugao Yangtze River Bridge Project Department of China Railway Bridge Bureau.

In the meantime, the reinforcement cage in the head slot of the diaphragm wall of the south anchorage of the north channel of the bridge is hoisted and lowered with the area of the anchorage foundation pit equivalent to 15 basketball courts.

As the "skeleton" of the diaphragm wall, the reinforcement cage weighs up to 86 tons, about 20 floors high.

The construction team adopted the overall lifting process by putting into use one 400 ton and one 260 ton crawler cranes, so that the cage can be turned vertically and lowered vertically. At the same time, the remote data transmission+video identification technology is applied to check various construction parameters in real time to ensure accuracy control.

"Through testing, our verticality has reached 1/1100 which is in the leading position in China. The construction of all diaphragm walls is expected to be completed by the end of February next year," said Nan Jinjiang, Project Manager of Zhangjiagang Jingjiang Rugao Yangtze River Bridge Section III of CCCC.

Suzhou Dushu Lake South Tunnel, the first special-shaped double deck tunnel under the navigation canal in China, was opened to traffic on Monday. The 3.3km tunnel is a key construction project in Jiangsu Province.

The tunnel passes through the main traffic roads and a canal in the city. The maximum depth of the land is 26.7 meters, the span of the foundation pit is 35 meters, and the distance from the nearest high-rise building is only about 10 meters.

During the construction, the construction company adopted open excavation of steel pipe pile cofferdam to ensure the normal navigation of the channel and not interfere with the normal flood discharge.

"We have innovated the laying of tunnel waterproof materials to ensure the construction quality and safety. We have successively adopted more than 10 new technologies, new schemes, new materials and new processes such as mass concrete pouring and segmental construction to regularly dredge the canal. At the same time more than 300 meters of new berths was built to ensure that the waterway will not be affected by construction," said Wang Hui, Secretary of the Party Branch of Suzhou Dushu Hunan Tunnel Project of the First Company of China Railway 20th Bureau.

Dushu Lake South Tunnel will further improve the road network structure in the southeast of Suzhou’s urban area, effectively relieve the traffic pressure, and shorten the travel time from Wuzhong District to the Industrial Park from 30 minutes to 5 minutes.
